“ RSS Feeds - I am looking at adding Rss Feeds to a website that I have. My question is this. Can you be specific about the content of your rss feeds. For instance if an article site only has a clothing section, but I want a more specific item of clothing e.g. corsets, which are included in the clothing section, but I don't want other articles on every other type of clothing, can I have an rss feed on corsets, can that be done. “ Re - SEO and duplicate content I know there are a lot of back and forth ideas and conjectures on this subject. I'm wondering if anyone has experimented with this and tested it.

My question is on duplicate content and whether or not it is "better than nothing."

Lets say I have a site full of my own content and I am adding a unique or re-written article every day and its climbing the serps (which I do.) For example, lets say its a "Hard drives" site (my usual example).

There is a static site, and three Wordpress blogs in subdirectories. Several times per month I do article submissions which link back to my sites using Submit YOur Article.com. I also submit articles to blogs, with backlinks, using TrafficKahuna.com.

Now, almost every day I add a new article to some part of the site. Either original or rewritten. Since I started doing that it is climbing in the serps and reached #12 for a competitive keyword (which gets 1 million searches a month). I want to get above the fold for that keyword.

SO here is my question - if I continue what I am doing but additionally add more content from other places, would this help, hurt, or make no difference.

For example, if I made a blog which was almost soley for guest posts and if I added articles from directories, YouTube videos, and guest posts, daily. Even perhaps using a plugin like Yet another Autoblogger or WP-O-Matic. Of course I would make sure that my posts are relevant to "Hard drives" and actually useful to site visitors. With this method I could add several pages to my site every day somewhat automatically, in addition to the original content I post. But there would be duplicate content in there too.

Would it possibly hurt my site? Or make no difference? Or only help a little?

I know I could test it and I know there are lots of ideas out there pro and con duplicate content. But I was just wondering if anyone on EA has experience with this or has tested the matter more thoroughly than I have. ”

I have some squidoo lenses and one is doing really well. I checked the stats and it has 147 backlinks from 4 different sites. Is this why this one is doing really well? Could you explain why one lens has more than others when I've done the same things for them all and could you tell me how to get more backlinks? I have multiple domains with Godaddy and apparently lots of free hosting accounts with them as I have never used any. I have used their smart space and like it a lot. What you propose probably would have been a great idea to do this last September when I was thinking about how to solve this domain name issue.

However, at the time my partner encouraged me to just keep it all on findportablehardrives.com, pointing out that most of my traffic was from Search Engines and people don't really look closely at URLs anymore. I was never really happy with that but, I think it is too late now, and here is why:

Since that time, I have added 3 wordpress blogs to the domain, which are all on "general hard drives" ("Hard Drives Updates and News," "DIY Hard Drives," and "Save Money with Hard Drives").

Plus - the site is already ranking up to #20-30 on Google for keywords like "hard drives" and "home hard drives" - both of which are very high traffic and competitive terms in my actual niche. I am aiming for the top.

That's why I think it is too late to change the site itself now. Without moving the entire thing, including 3 blogs, and risking a loss of traffic. It gets about 8000 uniques a month.

So what I wanted to ask about is how it would effect the SEO, if all of my videos link to computers.com/harddrives (on a Page Rank 3 site I already own, like "computers.com" for example). Then I would either

1. Frame findportablehardrives.com into computers.com/harddrives (using frames in the html or php code, so that the URL visitors would actually see would be computers.com/harddrives), or

2. 301 redirect computers.com/harddrives to findportableharddrives.com , or

3. Just swallow my defeat regarding my earlier mistakes, and link all of my videos to findportableharddrives.com, and maybe put a little "About" page on the site which explains how we evolved from "portable" to "general" (blush).

What I am wondering about is the SEO of the backlinks - will the backlinks be the same value if they are redirects or frames? Or nearly the same value?

From a perspective of visitor experience only, I like the framing idea, because the visitor would only see computers.com/hardrives as the URL. Which looks neater, is easier to remember, and is more relevant. But for a search engines - I am wondering how that backlink would be viewed.

“ I have a website with salesletter and set up using the $7 script. I also have a SimpleMachines forum set up on that same site.

I would now like to have my clients become automatic and immediate members of the forum when they purchase my product.

I know I can simply tell them where to go to access the forum, but that would mean I would need to manually approve each member (it is meant to be a private forum).

Is there any way that I can automate this process so that immediately after they have completed their purchase, they are provided with the required info and advised of their user name and password.

“ I apologize for the length, but I wanted to be as thorough as possible in asking this question, so the expert that answers understands what I am trying to accomplish.

Before I set up my web site, I want to decide on how I should set up my blog. I see two options:

(1) The sales page will be the root of the domain and then blog is installed in a sub-folder (e.g. mysite.com/blog) or (2) the blog has its own domain (e.g. mysiteblog.com).

I find the first option more appealing because I can set up links not just to the sales page (root), but I can also set up deep links to posts (i.e. content) on my blog and have the “sales page” portion of the site benefit from the traffic going to the blog (since they’re basically together as one entity or site). Therefore, the “whole” site can benefit.

People will click a link and come to a blog post but see the sales page (i.e. main domain) and maybe check it out. I would also have advertisements for what I’m selling on the sales page from within the blog.

Also, when I set up adwords campaigns, I can send traffic to the content on the blog portion of the site thereby making Google happy. The sales page can benefit just from the exposure but without a reduction in my quality score. I can focus on linking my adwords ads to the blog with the content, but those content pages will have strategically placed ads and links to the sales page.

If I do it this way, I think I can concentrate on driving traffic by building really good one way back links to just “one” site splitting the traffic between the sales page and the blog, and I can take advantage of deep linking to blog posts. Therefore, that can help the sales page which is going along for the ride by having visitors click on those strategically placed ads or just going to the sales page portion of the site directly.

Does this approach make sense or should I set up a completely separate blog site with its own domain name and drive traffic to both the sales site and the blog separately (while also building in links from the blog to the sales site)? I could work on building the page rank of my blog (while using those ads for the product). I think this would take much longer, though.
