“ This is for Craig DeSorcy - a comeback for Answer 743 re my question no. 7003369:

Craig -

Thanks for your response; I realized it might not be possible to give me all the details, and you gave me some good sources to follow up on. But, a couple of things:

First, no, this isn't my first effort, just my first big effort with my own product; I've tried affiliate stuff before, with little success, and a PLR e-book I extensively re-wrote which I titled 'Precision Pricing'. But, here's a couple of basic questions re my present effort:

My proposed sales page is at http://steelladies.pulsejets.2ya.com/ - there are no PayPal BUY buttons there yet, but most of the rest is there. A basic question, though: As you can see, this is a 'catalog' page of five different engines, with a big endorsement at the top, a little Q&A section, etc. Now:

1. Is the endorsement at the top too long? It si a LOT bigger than most product endorsement blocks!

2. Is a catalog of different products just silly? Would a shorter page for each engine be a more effective marketing approach (i.e. more of a mini site approach)?

Thanks in advance for ANYTHING you have to offer re this page.

Larry ”

“ Hey Guys. I have a question on selling leads. I currently sell a skin care product. It is a one time buy and I have no back end yet. So I have to attract brand new customers every day. I have heard that you can sell your leads (customers in my case) to certain companies who will pay a decent amount for fresh leads. Does anyone know what companies I could contact to set this up and any other advice? I don't know if selling leads is looked down upon but I work hard to attract customers and this seems like a legitimate way to squeeze extra value out of them. Thanks. ”

“ I might need to set up shopping carts for some of my clients and I have never done this before.

This would be for clients who own small businesses and would probably be selling their own physical products, such as clothing items, crafts, or health products.

On my Hostgator cPanel there are three options of carts I can install automatically:

CubeCart
OS Commerce
Zen Cart

Which would you recommend? Or do you know any pros/cons of the different choices? Or is there another type of shopping cart you would recommend?

“ I need to create a forum, specifically for my clients.

Basically, I build websites/blogs for clients who are completely green as webmasters. They then have lots of questions - everything from how to write a post, to how to promote their site, etc.

To start off with I would like to create a forum for my clients, so that they can post their questions there and we can answer them on the forum, and thus save the time spent answering the same questions by email continuously.

Eventually I might want to create a membership site for my clients (a micro-continuity site with additional training, videos, etc.) When I am ready to do this I will probably use the system developed by Russel Brunson, including a Wordpress plugin that allows one to turn a Wordpress blog into a membership site. When I am ready to make this membership site, I would like to be able to INTEGRATE my existing forum with it as easily as possible.

Ideally the clients would be able to access the membership site and forum with one login, and although I recognize that this might not be possible with what I have in mind, it doesn't hurt to ask.

In summary, I would like the forum to have the following characteristics:

Most Important:

Members-only forum
Can integrate with payment processing so that people can pay to become members

Less important but would be ideal:

Non-members can see the questions but not the anwers
Can later be integrated with Wordpress-based microcontinuity site
Can be insalled and maintained relatively simply

From my Hostgator cPanel, I can automatically install phpBB or SMF. I have also heard about VBulletin ...

What do you recommend? And/or, what are the pros and cons of the different options, considering what I have in mind?

“ Please explain what Link-Building to me - Whatit is and how to do it to gain page one Google rankings for a local offline business website. I have been told that Link-Building is the KEY to success in drving more free traffic to your website and to achieving higher Google rankings (ie: Page One) than your competitors. Are there numberous ways to build links or is there only one way? I have heard of people being able to rank on page one of Google for some extremely competitive keywords or keyword phrases just because they were experts at link-building. Is this possible? “ What is the best technology to use to make an eCommerce website with a shopping cart?

For example, if a client of mine runs a clothing store or company, and they want people to be able to browse their products on their website, add and remove products to the store, perhaps have discounts or coupon codes apply in certain circumstances, and then make the order.

I've been making Wordpress blogs and other static sites for a long time, but have never done anything with a "secure" website or a shopping cart. I have stores that hook up to Amazon and eBay for affiliate sales, but this is a different matter. The kind of store I have in mind would have nothing to do with affiliate sales, it would just be for a small business or store that wants people to be able to make purchases online.

As a final question, is there is any way to do the above within the Wordpress framework, this is preferable. I prefer to work with Wordpress whenever I can.

Thanks! ”

“ How do you handle plagiarism and scraped content?

Once in a while I find that people have taken my poetry and published it as their own, either by putting their name as the author, or by simply publishing it without credits or links.

I allow people to use my poems with my permission, but they always have to include the credits, and links to my blog.

I have my poetry on my blogs and it is also published in a book on Lulu. Since I am the first person to publish it online, it should not be hard to prove that it is mine if I needed to ... but oh, the hassle ... and I don't know where to start.

Once I wanted to tackle this but I got a bit overwhelmed trying to figure out the exact procedures to take (if I can't resolve it by simply contacting the site owner). Then I got swamped in legalese etc.

Do you know where I can find some good guidance or step-by-step advice on this? ”

“ I now think I know what I want to happen to get someone from my sales page to the order page:

1. They click on the jet engine they want to buy
2. They are presented with the liability disclaimer to sign (has to be different for someone needing parent or gaurdian to sign!) Submitting this gets them a unique assigned number and leads to the free downloads page (different for each engine model).
3. They download the Operating Manual and the Safety Manual (PDFs), make the final decision to purchase, and click on the BUY button
4. They enter their info on the PayPal purchase page, with their unique number filled in automatically on the 'Comments' block
5. PayPal processes their order, and I get their shipping info and unique number.

OK -- How do I set up the Web pages to make this happen? ”

“ I'm considering monetizing some of my blogs with OIO publisher once their traffic builds up a bit more.

How much traffic do you think a blog should have before one starts selling advertising on it?

For example, if you had a blog on Internet Marketing ... (that's not the only type of blog this is for but it's one we can all relate to ...) how many uniques per day would you want to have before you would go into sponsored ads?

Another question, are there some good resources (websites, eBooks, etc) with pricing guidelines?

As in, size and location of ad on page, vrs average traffic ... = how much per month.

Thanks! ”

“ I am working on testing and tweaking the monetization on my blogs.

I know every niche is different - but can you give me some idea of what you consider to be good/fair/average/poor ECPMs?

For example, on a technical site which sells gadgets. Not necessarily on a "big money keyword" site.

And I know placement on page is a factor. I am talking about ECPMs for the best placed ads on the page.

If the answer is too diverse to give an estimate, examples or resources would be great as well.

Thanks!

“ I am looking for a software application which works offline and has a timer similar to that of Freshbooks.

Freshbooks allows you to set up certain projects and tasks and then use a start/stop timer to keep track of how much time you spend on each task.

This is used for when you are doing Freelance work by the hour. But it is also a very useful time management tool, and can allow you to easily keep track of what you spend time on. So that if, at the end of the month, you are wondering why you are still so behind, you can check your records and find that you spent 55% of your time on Twitter. And then you know what the problem is.

Do you know of such a timer which exists and runs offline? I need this because I have a slow and unstable satellite connection, and also have bandwidth limits to watch. ”

“ I've just created another optin option on my wordpress blog & I have 2 PC's I check
performance on. I installed my new optin form from Aweber on my side bar using the
Text Widget function, it looks & fits well on 1 PC (17 inch monitor) but looks terrible on my
other PC (21 inch monitor).

There is a massive amount of blank space between the Optin heading to were the
actual name & email box is, how do I get rid of all that blank space?

Also when you add something new into your side bar I've found it can mess with other
things you have added for example, banners. The code is still there but the
banner isn't visible anymore :( not sure how to fix that either.
The only difference between the PC's is the size of the monitors.
Thanks.

“ I have a blog which gives news within a certain niche. I add original content regularly but the readers could be benefited by other news stories as well.

Technically I know how to use RSS feeds to update my blog. But how do I know when it is okay to do so, or not? In terms of copyrights and ethics, I don't want to use anyone's content without knowing it is okay with them.

Even if the posts are just summaries with links to source, that would be fine, as it would still benefit my readers and make sure the blog stays up to date even if I sometimes can't post for a few days or more. ”

“ I have an opportunity to buy a franchise for outdoor advertising. Currently we install sign on top of gas pumps throughout the SE Nebraska and SW Iowa areas.

Recently we were asked to get just one station to let us hang the signs, so we went to over 40 stations.
The current campaign is promoting motorcycle awareness.

We offered to pay the station owners to let us hang the signs above their pumps in an area they are not using. That is free money, but all either said NO, or told us to come back in September.

This should be the easiest sale ever, but if people will not let us hang the signs, then I am skeptical about buying the franchise. I am promoting the company online through blog articles.

How can we find more independent stations vs. corporate owned and approach them better to get more to say YES? ”

“ I would like to know if anyone has experience with this service, and whether anyone can recommend it or not recommend it:

Specifically I was looking at the service they offer where they write and submit the articles for you:

If the service is good quality this would save A LOT of time for me, because I currently have to outsource, edit, and submit my articles.

I already use a service which submits my articles to blogs (traffickahuna.com) but it doesn't include the writing and submitting service. It just allows me to do it. I don't do as many submissions as I could or should because I have a hard time keeping up with it. ”

This is a question about page levels.
Is it make a difference if key pages are two clicks away instead of one?
Right now I have One page with quite a number of listings that you can click on to get to that page, which contain affiliate links of products I'd like the visitor to click on.

Does it make a difference for the spiders if these pages are one click from the Home Page or two clicks away?

“ This is a question about increasing traffic on an existing site. (You don't have to reread this whole thing out loud :) )

I have a site getting 11,000 to 13,000 unique visitors per month. It has a static site, several blogs, and a store selling products through Amazon etc. It has Page Rank 3 and is nearly 3 years old.

It earns most of its revenue from Adsense and Amazon, last month was about $500. I think it could earn more for the traffic it has, but I am not sure. Clickbank products never go anywhere with it even when related.

It gets a lot of traffic from long-tail keywords.

But it is ranking relatively high for several high-traffic competative keywords. But, #20, #24, #18, #8, etc. Close to the top but not high enough to explode the traffic.

I want to 10x the traffic and get it up to $5,000 per month. I feel like it is "so close but so far."

I know there are a lot of things I could do to increase the traffic. My problem is not knowing my priorities, or what to focus on next. I feel confused!

My question - can you recommend a good traffic strategy for a site in this stage? Or which method(s) I should focus on?

This is what I am already doing (usually)

Submitting several articles to directories per month (to several directories, through submityourarticle dot com).
Submitting articles to numerous blogs per month (through traffickahuna dot com)
I add at least one page per day to the site, either main the static site or one of its blogs, usually at least 400 words.
Analyzing and improving my site's pages and navigation based on Google Analytics.

This is what I am not doing or not enough of:

I do bits and pieces of social networking but not that much. The site's blogs are hooked up with My Blog Log, Blog Catalog, Twitter, etc.
Submitted some of the RSS feeds to RSS directories last fall, but never finished.
I have only done one video for the site and uploaded it to several video sharing sites, over a year ago.
I have never done a podcast though I also don't feel quite ready for that in terms of knowing what to say.
I don't do a ton of commenting on blogs in this niche, though I do some.

In a nutshell I am trying to ascertain the best way to increase my traffic and push the "almost top rankings" up. With the most results for my time. It is not a lack of ideas on how to increase traffic. It is, which to focus on?

Any suggestions? ”

It is called Downline Builder Direct. The following description is from their website.

Downline Builder Direct is the only service that will offer you the chance to build both your downline list and your viral list – all-in-one. You FINALLY have the opportunity to build a double opt in list at hyper speed while building huge downlines for multiple programs using viral techniques.

Could you please explain this to me and tell me if this is a good thing to do.

Since the money is in the list I was going to use this service to mail out freebies just to build a bigger mailing list.

What do you recommend I do?

Thank You
Patricia Lucey

“ I just got my Squidoo lens up and did a health check on it. Most of the things scored pretty well but I know I need to get more traffic. What is backlinking and how can I do this better? Also, if I set up blogs or submit to video sites how important is it for my content to be different. For instance, if I shoot a short instructional video can I put that on different sites or do all the videos have to be unique? ”

“ I just listened to you answer to someone about Squidoo. My question is: If I create videos for the sites you recommend, do they all have to be different? I keep hearing about (forget what the term is but it's the same content on different sites) and don't want to be labeled as unprofessional or unethical. So if I want to get more traffic by setting up things like that should I shoot a bunch of related but varied videos? ”

“ I would like to set up a couple of blogs using my own domain and hosting but require a good resource to design them for me. Can you recommend a good design resource to have this done. Also, can blogs have different urls for different categories within the blog. Or do they all have the same url.
Thankyou. ”

“ One of my websites is doing better every month, but it seems slow. I am not sure. It is now getting around 13,000 uniques per month, and last month it made about $500 between ads and sales. hat works out to just over 4 cents per unique visitor. It provides information on a certain technology, as well as selling gadgets which use that technology. It makes most of its money with Adsense, followed by Amazon. I have tried selling relevant Clickbank products on it but got very few sales.

(Note this is a long question, you don't have to reread it outloud unless you really want to :) )

I normally add one post or page per day and I submit several articles per month to numerous blogs and article directories, using two syndication services. The site has even gotten up to #20 on Google for a highly competitive keyword (which gets a million searches per month per Google Keyword Tool) and bounced around the SERPs in that range.

Here is my problem - there are SO MANY things to do to improve this website, I am sometimes not sure what to focus on first. I know I could:

Start on video promotions
Do more social networking
Analyze the site more thoroughly in Google Analytics to improve bounce rate of high traffic pages and do other relevant tweaks
Comment more often on blogs in my niche
Submit more of its RSS feeds to more directories
Test different monetization strategies to see if I can improve ratio of earnings to traffic. Maybe I could look into CPA offers, or different add networks, or see about starting a micro continuity program, or this, or that ...
Do keyword research to try to find higher paying keywords
Study the rest of my free materials from StomperNet to improve the site based on that
Study my hard drive full of eBooks to implement everything they say
Hire someone to analyze it and tell me what to do (I have no idea where to find such a service but I highly doubt I could afford it if I did)
Continue fixing up old pages and onsite factors that need tweaking
Etc, etc.

This site is 2 1/2 years old, though I only started working on it much last September, and only started daily updates a couple of months ago. In September it was getting about 2,000 visitors a month, now it's 13,000.

The questions that run through my mind ... am I going to slow? Is this normal speed? Is this a normal traffic/revenue ratio for such a site (providing technological information, and selling gadgets on Amazon). Should I change something I am doing or just continue as I am? What should I focus on next? Should I focus on improving monetization, or focus on increasing traffic? Etc.

I would happily tell you the URL but like most marketers I don't really want to publish this on a public IM-related site.

I know this is a broad question but I would appreciate any input or feedback from someone more experienced than I. ”

“ Can anyone recommend a Merchant Account Company that does not Charge a huge fee for application or setup and low monthly fees. I went through one company (IMAXX) and got approved with No App fee to Authorize.net, however IMAXX charges $50.00 a month with 3 year contract and $250 Early Term FEE on top of Authorize.net Fees. I know Paypal has a plan now to accept CC, but again it's around $200 app fee and $30 per month. I have a Premier Paypal Act, but would like to accept CC's too, without being robbed. Thanks,
Stephen ”
