“ Re: Wordpress. I would like to add a login/logout/admin link to the footer of my Wordpress blogs so that I can more easily do away with the meta widget.

Is there a "one size fits all" code or method of doing this? Such as a code I can simply insert into the footer?

Are there any simple instructions on how to do this?

I know how to go into my php files and css files and make changes, just not sure what changes to make in this case.

Thanks!

P.S. - Thanks for the answers to my other questions - very helpful and I am doing what you said to. ”

“ Hello,

I have several Wordpress blogs with general interest content. They get new content regularly, but it is not deeply categorized and not niche specific.

What are recommendable alternatives to monetize such blogs - besides Adsense and Yahoo Publisher Network?

Many thanks,
Andy ”

“ I created my own header for my blog with text in it. Now I can't get anything to show up at the top (like where blog name - Mozilla Firefox would go.) If I put anything in the blog title in settings it shows up over top of my text. Can you tell me where to edit the code -- I've tried everything in the header code but I can't make it work. If you need the info my blog is newbieandbeyond.com. ”

“ Tags & Categories in blogs. I understand that categories are useful for grouping posts that apply to a specific topic... but I'm a little confused about tags. Should I use tags, and how many? Do these help with SEO. Do the categories help with SEO, too?

Also, I notice that my blogspot blog only has "labels" but my wordpress blog has both categories and tags. Are "labels" like tags, or are they like categories. Any tips on how I should utilize any of these for best SEO and best practice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. ”

“ Re: Wordpress. I'd like to show excerpts from one blog on the home page of another blog. Specifically:

I have a website which is composed of several Wordpress blogs. One on the top level, and the others in subdirectories.

Like this: mywebsite.com
mywebsite.com/alternativeenergy
mywebsite.com/nontoxic
mywebsite.com/homeremedies

On the home page of the top level "mywebsite.com" there are post excerpts.
Occassionally when I post an article in a "sub-blog" I would like it to show up among the excerpts of mywebsite.com home page. (And I would like the RSS readers of mywebsite.com to be informed of it, just as they would with any post.)

For example: I post an article about windmills to mywebsite.com/alternativeenergy
An excerpt of that article is also posted to mywebsite.com
If a person clicks on the excerpt's title link, from mywebsite.com, the original post (at mywebsite.com/alternativeenergy) opens up in a new window.

My first question is whether this is possible. Protecting against duplicate content issues is another matter but first I just want to find out if this is possible in the first place.

I've tried using WP-O-Matic plugin, but haven't been able to get this working really - particularly regarding having the title link open the post in a new window. ” ”

“ I apologize for the length, but I wanted to be as thorough as possible in asking this question, so the expert that answers understands what I am trying to accomplish.

Before I set up my web site, I want to decide on how I should set up my blog. I see two options:

(1) The sales page will be the root of the domain and then blog is installed in a sub-folder (e.g. mysite.com/blog) or (2) the blog has its own domain (e.g. mysiteblog.com).

I find the first option more appealing because I can set up links not just to the sales page (root), but I can also set up deep links to posts (i.e. content) on my blog and have the “sales page” portion of the site benefit from the traffic going to the blog (since they’re basically together as one entity or site). Therefore, the “whole” site can benefit.

People will click a link and come to a blog post but see the sales page (i.e. main domain) and maybe check it out. I would also have advertisements for what I’m selling on the sales page from within the blog.

Also, when I set up adwords campaigns, I can send traffic to the content on the blog portion of the site thereby making Google happy. The sales page can benefit just from the exposure but without a reduction in my quality score. I can focus on linking my adwords ads to the blog with the content, but those content pages will have strategically placed ads and links to the sales page.

If I do it this way, I think I can concentrate on driving traffic by building really good one way back links to just “one” site splitting the traffic between the sales page and the blog, and I can take advantage of deep linking to blog posts. Therefore, that can help the sales page which is going along for the ride by having visitors click on those strategically placed ads or just going to the sales page portion of the site directly.

Does this approach make sense or should I set up a completely separate blog site with its own domain name and drive traffic to both the sales site and the blog separately (while also building in links from the blog to the sales site)? I could work on building the page rank of my blog (while using those ads for the product). I think this would take much longer, though.

I hope this made sense.

I appreciate any advice you can offer.

John
